After serving as one of Datacert’s development partners, the retailer selects the Passport technology platform with Datacert’s legal matter and spend management applications
HOUSTON, January 5, 2011 – Datacert, Inc., the premier global provider of enterprise legal management solutions, today announced that Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT), or "Walmart," has selected Passport™, Datacert’s patent-pending technology platform, to help strategically manage Walmart’s domestic legal processes and systems. In addition, Walmart will implement Datacert’s matter management and spend management systems, which are built on Passport.
Passport is the only enterprise legal management platform available that allows even the most expansive law departments to integrate all legal technology solutions in one space, including complementary software that supports other business processes, e.g., e-discovery, litigation holds, document management, etc. Consolidating systems on Passport will provide the retail organization with enhanced visibility into its legal-related business. Among other benefits, this will provide collaboration internally and with outside firms the legal team currently manages.
"A detailed review of key legal department management systems helped us determine that it was time to upgrade our existing spend and matter management systems to embrace more current technologies and features, and to implement a platform that simplifies the integration of other best-in-class legal department management systems," said Ken Vermilion, Sr. Director, Walmart. "Following an extensive RFP process, we selected Passport because it proved to be the only platform with the comprehensive capabilities to meet our current requirements and easily evolve to support our future needs. The ease of configuration and integration that Passport offers, combined with user-friendly features in Datacert’s matter management system, will help us greatly enhance legal process efficiency."
Prior to officially unveiling Passport in September, Datacert spent more than 18 months developing the platform with Walmart, and other clients from Fortune Global 500 companies, law firms, and industry thought leaders. Every design and development decision is a direct result of input, guidance, and testing from development partners and is focused on providing a solid foundation for consolidating, managing, configuring, and even building new legal applications. Walmart’s legal department played an important role in the development of Passport.
"It was a terrific experience to work with Walmart for the development of Passport and we are excited to welcome them to the platform’s growing client roster," said Jim Tallman, president and chief executive officer, Datacert. "It is because of their input that Passport is completely different from any other solution in the market today and includes original features such as an Outlook Module that drives user adoption by enabling legal department staff to perform day-to-day matter management activities from within the Outlook interface, where many are most comfortable working."
Passport is a straightforward platform that allows for easy configuration and integration so changes can be made internally without having to go back to Datacert or hire a third party. The Walmart selection comes on the heels of several other companies, including 12 Fortune/Fortune Global 500 organizations, choosing Passport to optimize management of their legal departments.
